@batgxrl.irl: don’t use me as a ‘gotcha’ when this conversation wasn’t about me! the convo is not about whether or not non-black cosers should cosplay black characters in the first place. i was wondering why my jabber videos were suddenly picking up traction again. i’m so glad that my cosplay has been relatively well received and i’ve been referenced more as a “do” than “don’t!” that being said: there is a long and dark history of white people ‘wearing locs’ and black face in order to perform racist, caricatured portrayals of black people as entertainment. that is why this is a particularly delicate subject within the cosplay community. jabber is my favorite character from gachiakuta and i worked very hard to cosplay him respectfully. as mentioned kind of everywhere, i deliberately chose to alter his hairstyle as well so that i wouldn’t be appropriating locs. i understand fully the criticisms i’ve received for cosplaying jabber and empathize fully with black cosers and how they are treated within the cosplay community. i fully believe that cosplay is for everybody as long as they are being respectful and this applies across the board, and i hope that similar criticisms can be made later towards non-asian cosplayers who use eye tapes or color their skin to cosplay asian characters as well. lastly, i understand that i am pale, but i am NOT white! i cant respond to them all, but there are a LOT of comments calling me white or implying i am and this is blatantly wrong. #jabbercosplay #jabberwonger #gachiakutaanime #gachiakutacosplayer #jabbergachiakuta

i cosplayed Prism from Dispatch in my first con, it was also my first proper handmade cosplay! Honestly at first i was a bit nervous cuz what if people judged or anything but everyone loved it. Honestly Prism has a simple design which made it easier, if she had locs or anything idk what idea i would come up with but yeah😭
