They’re related to snails, but they lose the shell and leave their gills exposed, which is exactly why their name means naked gills. And these things are not boring little blobs either. There are over 3,000 species, and a lot of them look absolutely unreal. Some eat anemones, hydroids, sponges, barnacles, fish eggs, and even other nudibranchs. Even crazier, some can actually steal stinging cells from their prey and use them for their own defense. Their bright colors can also warn predators not to mess with them.
