When I were working as a hospice nurse, we predict based on the actual scenario and prognosis so we can be more attentive to make them more comfortable like giving the medications so they can transition free of pain.

Many times the patient's family asks how much longer do you think their loved one has because they have family coming from out of state. So it's not unusual to talk to the coworkers about it, especially during report. That is a nurses job to know their patients.

I don't think it's a crime. However, I always told the family symptoms, no dates. She was speaking to coworkers anyway!

When I took care of my dad until his death I would constantly say he’ll be gone in 2 days. Look at him, and I wasn’t getting paid. I just did all the nursing because I loved him and didn’t trust anyone

They don’t have freedom of speech over there. Don’t get me wrong there should be consequences for saying terrible things about our patient’s family or a patient in general but we have all predicted when someone is going to die.

Many deaths are predictable to the day but betting on death borders on unprofessional, imo.

Ridiculous, I'm surprised anyone goes into nursing these days. I'm 50 years this year in nursing, retired. Not a joyful profession, I wonder sometimes if it really ever was.
