62 million meters is 38,525 miles. Earth's circumference is 24,901 miles. If I were to tell you an asteroid 1,000 meters (over half a mile, specifically 0.621) in circumference was on a collision course course with Earth that would still be an apocalyptic threat, but something that we can hope to solve through dedicated work. 62 million though? That’s bigger and than anything possible. We should just give up. The number changes our perception of how solvable the problem is. If 62 million American men were actively a part of this specific article, then the problem to solve wouldn’t even seem possible. That’s over 1/3 of all men in the country. So many people would just give up. Having accurate information doesn’t mean we aren’t dealing with a HUGE problem. Talking about it correctly means we can actually do something about it
