I live in Italy. We eat a farro soup in the winter, and a farro salad in the summer. It’s delicious. As a retired Latin professor, I will be looking for your cookbook!

I like to blend the farro or blend the kamut and make the porridge that way

Know any ancient recipes that were similarly made with grains (like a porridge) but once it was hot (cooked over open fire) it was dished out into a bowl and a raw egg was cracked into it and stirred in? Like the heat from the porridge cooked the raw egg in the individual bowl?

Something I wonder about — modern science claims you need x amount of protein to produce strength and muscle gain, but nearly every ancient warrior’s diet we see consists solely or mostly of carbs. What gives? They were killing machines and incredible athletes on diets almost entirely devoid of protein by modern standards. 🤔

Looks great as always .. I grew up on Porridge.. i respect the sustenance I got from it as a kid .. don’t mind oats or granola as an adult .. But I don’t think porridge will ever appeal to me as an adult 🤣

Milk is not common in popular and military recipe. Only salt, water and cereals. Often it was served with boliled legumes like lentils, chickpeas and broad beans. The name "Cicero" derives from the Latin name for chickpeas. This indicates how widespread these legumes were in Ancient Rome.
