@gabriel.nussbaum: Social Media Has DESTROYED your perception of what is normal financially ❌ 20 years ago, you might see a friend after work and find out about the holidays that just went on. Today, you're constantly seeing a highlight reel. Not just the people you know, but also influencers, celebrities, your friend's friends, That person you met five years ago on a random holiday. This is not normal. It isn't normal to constantly be seeing the best side of every person around you and thinking that’s what success looks like. Comparison is the thief of joy. You can’t see that holiday being put on a credit card. You can’t see the 8 year PCP plan behind that new car You can’t see the tag left on that designer item for them to return it after the picture. Build wealth quietly, trust me on that! #PersonalFinance #wealth #LearnOnTikTok

What makes you say buying a property in your 20a not normal ??? What do you class as normal !!!! Someone who has saved hard invested & got that deposit for a house is very possible in your 20s . Some of the other purchases u claim are normal to some , it all comes down to what you are earning , what is your salary ? If you work on the railways as a driver for instance is perfectly possibly in your 20s , you earn 66k a year , prefect material to purchase a house

I feel like cars are the biggest rip-off. Don't get me wrong, I’d love a Lambo if I were a multi-millionaire then cool. but buying a new car just seems like such a financially bad choice.

The point I’ve always thought about with cars is you could have an old car that if it breaks you have no fallback, it’ll cost you a fortune to fix or it’s written off and you need to get another which isn’t cheap. Whereas if you get a sensible PCP that has a warranty and a service plan (which are usually free or not much to pay for) then you’re covered for any issues. The issue is people who get PCP’s on expensive brands.

It’s ok to live with your parents and save for a mortgage deposit. It’s ok to buy a house that isn’t perfect and needs doing up.

at this rate I'm just hoping for a financial crash in my mid to late 20s so I can buy a property at "cheap"

One or two of these things used to be “normal” for a lot more (median) earners. Relative decline is affecting our confidence

so if only of two of these apply, buying lunch out, and having money worries - does that mean I'm doing better than I think? My car is worth about £8k and I earn £33k, my last holiday was April 25, my next is September 27, I put a bit in my ISA each month but not much. I rarely buy new clothes.

Sounds like you should have a word with the places charging those prices, they’re the ones who made it normal.
