@behind_the_mind_: A 2017 study comparing adults with ADHD, chronic fatigue syndrome, and healthy controls found that about 62% of adults with ADHD reported clinically significant fatigue. The researchers also found fatigue was linked with functional impairment, mood symptoms, and lower self-efficacy in the ADHD group. Because this was a cross-sectional study, it can’t tell us what causes what, but it does support the idea that fatigue can be a meaningful part of the adult ADHD experience for many people. I’m glad there’s research but I don’t find this surprising at all - the lived experience of having ADHD is exhausting. Everything is too much all the time. Before I started meds I was perpetually chasing my own tail, overwhelmed, repeating and restarting tasks, everything took way longer, I’d get confused when switching tasks or trying to do anything complex that required working memory. That, on repeat, every day of your life would naturally cause clinically significant fatigue.

I really want them to look at our REM to deep sleep ratios comparatively. All the people I know with adhd dream more, remember their dreams more, and have more complex dreams. I don’t think we’re getting enough deep sleep. I’m not a dr and I know this is anecdotal but I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s something there.

This is so real 😅 I always felt exhausted no matter how much I rested, plus my eating habits were all over the place and I was constantly bloated. It made everything feel harder than it should be. I tried so many things and nothing really helped long term. Then in a women’s group I saw Eat Like a Woman Protocol by Loren Green. I tried it and wow—28 lbs down, energy finally steady, no more heaviness, felt like myself again. feels like something nobody talks about, my favourite one

Call it “poor sleep hygiene” is really upsetting because I WANT to sleep. I have a schedule, I try to sleep. Sometimes I can’t fall asleep and sometimes I do fall asleep but I wake up every hour or so and I’m exhausted in the morning. No, I don’t have sleep apnea.

This is my biggest daily struggle. I have a combination of ADHD symptoms/chronic fatigue/chronic low level pain. 0/10 would not recommend.
It is incredibly hard to live the life you want to live when you don't have the energy. That frustration also contributes to anxiety and depression. It's all one big negative self-reinforcing cycle

As someone with adhd i have struggled to get enough sleep my entire life. Not because of insomnia or a sleep condition, but because my body wants to go to bed at 2 am and wake up at 10 am. I work first shift so im always sleep deprived. I cant go to bed earlier doesnt matter how tired i am. I thrived on second shift sleep wise but social cost wasnt worth it. So i wake up every day feeling bone tired in my 30s because of thie

Without meds, I wake up and would rather fall off a cliff than move. It feels like when you are abruptly woken up in the middle of deep sleep like 4 hours after going to bed. I’ve tried so many natural ways to get around needing prescription meds and I’m still stumped

right before I got diagnosed and put on medication, the mental load of chores and work every day would put me out on the couch for at least an hour of sleeping and while I've had sleep disturbances my entire life, napping every day was a regular thing as I got older in a way that didn't happen when I was off work!

I think the study would be more meaningful if they controlled for different ADHD types. I wonder if hyperactive types don’t experience the same amount of fatigue as inattentive or combined types, and if that skews the numbers
