Pre-Assembled Solid Snake Action Figure for 3D Printing Today I'm sharing a quick tutorial with a few tips for printing my pre-assembled action figures. In this case, we're using Solid Snake, a model designed to be easy to print, even if you're just getting started with 3D printing. The figure comes as a single pre-assembled piece, so it's basically ready to print. My main recommendation is to prioritize print quality. If you're printing in FDM, use finer layer heights, slower print speeds, and orient the model strategically so support marks end up in the least visible areas. I use fairly generic print settings. The goal is for anyone to download the file and get great results without needing to be a 3D printing expert. I want these models to be as beginner-friendly as possible. This fully functional pre-assembled joint system for both FDM and resin printing is very new. In fact, I created it just last week, and I've been refining and testing it ever since. If there were a championship for the world's best 3D printed toy designer... I'd probably have a good shot at winning. Then again, it helps that I don't know anyone else making something quite like this yet. In this video I removed the supports almost entirely by hand. Normally I'd recommend using small flush cutters and taking your time, but this print had a different purpose: I wanted to see how much abuse the figure could take. As you can see, it holds up surprisingly well, although I still recommend treating your prints with a bit more care. Once the supports are removed, you'll notice the figure feels very loose. Don't worry—that's completely normal and part of the design. Every joint works through a system of channels, stops, travel limits, and friction surfaces. The first challenge was creating a fully pre-assembled action figure. The next challenge was fighting the natural wear of the material, since over time friction would eventually loosen the joints. The solution was incredibly simple: small hair elastics. They're inexpensive, easy to find, and chances are someone in your house already has plenty of them. Place the elastics between the joints until you achieve the stiffness you prefer. Besides making the figure hold poses much better, they also reduce wear and help extend the life of the joints. If you're printing in resin, I recommend using clear water-washable resin. Because light penetrates the model more effectively, it helps cure the internal cavities more completely and reduces the risk of trapped uncured resin inside the print. The result is a fully articulated, scalable action figure. If you print it at a larger scale, simply use larger elastics. I've already tested it, and the system works perfectly. Now there's only one thing left to do: print it, paint it, and make it your own. Meanwhile, my newest pre-assembled figure, Marco Rossi from Metal Slug, is already printing, and many more action figures and improvements are on the way. #SolidSnake #3DPrinting #ActionFigures #STLFiles #DesertOctopus
