@sciencefunn: In some Finnish daycare centers, researchers didn’t just “replace rubber with mud.”. They added natural elements like forest soil, grass, moss and plants. Basically, they turned sterile playgrounds into small “mini-forests.” What they found In one well-known experiment: Kids playing in these nature-rich yards showed changes in their immune system within weeks (even ~28 days). After about a year, they had healthier immune responses and fewer harmful bacteria on their skin. The idea is tied to something called the biodiversity hypothesis - modern environments are too clean, so kids miss out on helpful microbes from nature. 👉 Giving kids regular contact with natural environments (soil, plants, biodiversity) can improve their immune system. Guys, be careful. This isn't about exposing your kids to bad pathogens to magically become immune. Its not that there's bad pathogens there. Other organisms are helping boost immunity and REDUCE harmful bacteria present on them.

Did they install a forest too? Really though, it's sound science. Let your kids go out in all weather and play with dirt and bugs. 🐛

That wouldn't work where I am because the ground must be "soft" enough if a kid falls on their head they won't get brain damage. Which is why we have to use engineered mulch.
