I’m thinking of doing environmental engineer or civil don’t know which route yet. Though working with water and soil intrigues me. Though I hate math with a passion. If my instructors weren’t lenient when it came to exams I would have failed but thanks to most of them letting us have our notes during exams that helped out a lot.

guys i think you exxagerating all engineering math is too easy for me because i majored in pure maty, computer science and mathematical statistics.do i think calculus and linear algebra and differintial equations were the easy ones, moderate are real analysis, complex analysis, introduction to abstract algebra difficult one is modern algebra,topology, differintial geometry,number theory and numerical analysis and the evil one is graph theory

Word of caution. This ABSOLUTELY does not stand true for all engineers. Also wouldn't you use physics pretty regularly in conjunction with those other types of math?

Do you do a lot of hand calculations for structural related problems, for instance determining the shear over a cross section of a beam, or hand calculating minimum column size to resist a certain axial load, or is this done by software.

The basics of civil engineering can be boiled down to three statements. You can’t push on a rope. Number two, water flows downhill. Number three, pressure increases with depth. See I was in engineering school back in the 1990s, civil engineering. Yeah the math can be a little heavy, but computers and especially apps are much better now than we had back then.
