@mcmahondogtraining: If your dog isn’t food motivated, it’s usually not the food. Lower their stress, find what they actually like, and teach them how to work for it. #DogTraining #dogtrainer #dogs #dogtrainingtips #dogobedience

Some dogs I’ve worked with wanted just pure praise and pets as a reward. They just want to please you, those “yes!” And “good!” Excited pats are all they want and they will absolutely do whatever they can to get it. It also builds confidence and they feel more sure in their choices. Most of the time it’s the working breeds, GSD, Aussie, Anatolian Shepherds etc. they naturally want to please, have higher energy and don’t want to stop moving for food.

My puppy LOVES food too much. He can’t focus at all if he thinks you have treats to give him.

My dog will take the treat if he’s training in the house, but outside, he’s too motivated by sniffing or just looking around, so he doesn’t listen to commands. We have the long leash and pull him in our direction, but still his attention is on everything else but us. Any advise?

@E.Ann: My golden is 10 weeks old and the only skills were currently working on is “place” which is laying in her kennel, sit, lay, and waiting before taking a treat. Is this too little? We weren’t going to add more to her training until she had all of these down strong is that a good plan? We do 5-10 min training sessions 2-3 times a day for reference as well

Would it be impossible to train a dog when the owners let them be naughty? My grandmas dog is super smart but she’s such a bad dog because my grandma lets her/encourages her

why do we need food to train. Makes no sense. It's just as stupid as if you give a child food for being good.
