@travelingboyfriends: Here’s why it’s no longer GLBT 🌈 But first, we love our girls! They deserve so much more credit than they get. The acronym started as GLBT, but during the AIDS crisis, when people refused to be around gay men who were dying from ‘gay cancer,’ as many called it, lesbians stepped in. They became caregivers, nurses, organizers, and even blood donors to those living with HIV/AIDS. They showed up in ways many didn’t. This, among other major reasons, is why the L comes first today. 🌈 We also want to spotlight the lesbians of color whose stories weren’t always told. It was hard to find them in videos and photos, not because they didn’t show up, but bc so much of the early movement was centered around white gay men, and sadly, the little visibility that existed only captured that. But lesbian women of color were there too, fighting, organizing, and pushing the movement forward. So, happy lesbian visibility week to our girls. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 🫶🏼🫶🏽 #gaytiktok #lesbianvisibilityweek #lgbtcouple #boyfriends

My mom left my dad for a woman. That woman became one of the most important people in my life and my 2nd mom. When both my parents passed, she remained and has loved me and my kid's just like they would have. I thank God my mom met her everyday.

I worked in AIDS hospice at 20 years old. I cant even explain how much it affected me. My heart just aches when I allow my memories to wander there.

My grandmothers cared for their very dear friend, Gus, in their home until the end. I was too young to understand at the time- but I remember going to visit him in his bed when we’d come over and telling him about my random childhood nonsense.

Thank you for giving our Lesbian sisters their historical flowers. They stepped up & stepped in when even doctors & nurses would not. In a time when fear was the law of the land, the Lesbian community stepped up and said, “Watch this.” They were the heroes of the time and should be recognized as such 💖

My uncle died of AIDS in the 90’s. It was my grandmother who took care of him and my mother who helped. Women are stronger than we are given credit for
