SF called me friday afternoon of easter weekend to tell me it was a total loss and told me & i had until monday for the rental. But then they wouldnt release funds until my bank sent the lien release - so i had to car shop fast with no money down… 😡

Geico gave me like 12 or so days with my total loss. He got his manager to extend it . I told him I was purchasing a car the next week and really needed it . Luckily it worked out for me

Something similar happened to me. My car was a total loss. It was in the THICK of Covid car supply issues. I literally bought my car off the truck the day after my car was deemed a total loss while the new car was still in transit. It was going to be a few extra days beyond then they originally told me the car would be cut off before it was physically delivered. My adjuster covered my rental while it was in transit for the few extra days. Granted I went through my insurance (I was not at fault) and I provided them the contract and a note from the dealership saying the delivery day. I definitely feel like she went above and beyond and I was incredibly grateful. I also didn’t demand that they do that. I asked cause what was the worst they could say.. if they said no I was in the same boat but thankfully they said yes.

I think that communication before the dead line is key. I had to return my car by like noon on a Monday. I worked i called both the rental place and the insurance and they were kind enough to extend me the courtesy of extending the time to 6 pm Tuesday. because I was polite, and called ahead of time to explore options.

There are some companies I’ve seen give literally only 3 days post TL payout! So take your 5-7 and be happy. 😭
