I always tell people an hour or two to allow the ingredients to work but also you shouldn't take a hot shower right after tanning or using a sauna or hot tub anyways.. need to let ur skin relax for a bit or it'll get angry

my mom always waited 2-3hrs after tanning (sun or bed) to shower. not because of the oils or lotions, but because the skin will continue to develop your tan. being in the uv activates the process, and showering interrupts it.
