I became petty. I made posters with all of the learning goals separated by chapters and my entire back wall is every, single learning goal from the year. I'm a middle school math teacher. I teach 2 different courses. My back wall is covered!

in grad school I did a research paper for one of my classes on objectives. after days and days of searching and reading, I never came across any substantive research that indicated learning objectives were connected to better learning outcomes. the kids barely read the agenda I post every day that actually tells them what we're going to do, so why tf would anyone think they care about a "learning target"?? i'm tired...

teaching HS math (algebra I or II or Geometry) I used to find the most generic objective that would be good for the entire year. The kids never once asked abt it. They WOULD ask abt the list of things that we were doing every day that was on the board.

My most recent observation was all great except the principal didn’t like that I didn’t have an objective written on the board and that my room was cluttered- I teach 5 different art classes every day. My emailed response explained why it was ineffective to waste space on my one board that is also my projector that shows my docucam live demos for the lesson and that I have individual studies that require all unique materials so I need them accessible but don’t have proper storage. I also said if he had any suggestions on how to address these issues I am glad to hear him. There wasn’t anything about it after that.

if theyre giving me the curriculum then give me the objective too, should be aligned to the curriculum so just give it to me in print outs. a binder full of objectives should be issued to me and I'll be happy to hang them up daily

My band director has to have an objective (we call it MLO) and he just has an I quote "I will be able to play my instrument for 5 minutes" it's been up since August 😭

The year we had to do this, I had five different preps. So I put my individual goals on pretty paper and laminated them and hung them up at the beginning of every class every day. Then our principal decided that the goals had to be handwritten every time, not typed up. He only lasted two years

Here's how I think about objectives - one year my ap wrote on 3 walk thrus where is your objective ? He didn't see it because my kids all wrote all over the board - BUT the teacher next door never changed hers from the 1 st week of school ! He never mentioned that ! 🤦🏻♀️

yeah, I got "unsatisfactory" on my evaluation for my objective not being on grade level. it was about ratios and writing ratios, for 7th grade. none of my classes are on grade level. i have to teach the 6th grade crap, too. duh.
