fun parallel i noticed last night on a rewatch: katara treated zuko after his betrayal the same way she treated jet after his. she treats people she's attracted to who have betrayed her in a very specific way. she also tried to heal both jet & zuko in the exact same places on their chests, but with zuko she succeeded. nothing in animation in particular is an accident. SO much more time and energy goes into the writing and 2D drawing than live action, so you can't waste a second of dialogue or a single frame. it is clear how much the writers room & animators loved this ship & wanted it to happen, even if they were eventually overruled by bryke, giancarlo volpe, & nickelodeon.

honestly id say any ship that includes two friends will usually make sense. like friendship is a great base for a relationship, though if its a canon couple you should probably include the moment when the characters fell for eachother and give it some more development.

I don't disagree, but I swear almost every story I have ever read/seen has a polar opposites type of couple. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but Zutara would've been just one of the many. I like Kataang because it's not something that you get to see everyday, it's alright to appreciate other relationship dynamics in media even if they might not be your cup of tea.
