he didn't. he would say i changed what he didnt ask of me and left what he wanted unchanged. my efforts were never recognized or seen so he left. why do I still want and miss him?

I need him to tell me this, a little reassurance, a little affection, anything that reminds me he still looks at me with kindness, not exhaustion or resentment. I grow quieter every day, fighting myself in silence, and somehow people seem to love this broken version of me more. Maybe if someone helped me raise the white flag instead of fighting alone against myself, things would hurt less. Why do i keep running toward a future where i cannot even see a tree in plain sight to rest under its after the long run? Why try to become better when I am the person I struggle most to love? Would his words help me? Maybe. They could breathe warmth into the ashes of my heart or become another hope I replay until it breaks. And maybe that is why words feel more intimate than touch: because i can keep them forever. I can replay his voice in my mind, write his words down, and let them live long after the moment is gone
