![Miss the mountains yet? The Făgăraș Mountains shed their winter armor and turn a deep, untamed green, revealing one of Romania’s grandest landscapes. This is where long summer days invite you onto ancient ridgelines, where the wind carries the scent of alpine grass and stone. From the shores of Lake Bâlea to the vast horizons of the Southern Carpathians, every trail feels like an invitation to wander a little farther than planned. The range holds some of Romania’s highest summits, including Moldoveanu Peak at 2,544 metres and Negoiu Peak at 2,535 metres. Popular summer routes climb from Bâlea Lake onto the main ridge, linking peaks such as Vânătoarea lui Buteanu Peak, Lespezi Peak and Viștea Mare Peak before reaching Moldoveanu. Viewpoints unfold in every direction: glacial valleys, sapphire mountain lakes, knife-edge ridges and distant forests stretching toward Wallachia and Transylvania. The legendary ridge traverse, often completed over several days, remains one of Eastern Europe’s most rewarding mountain journeys. There is something peculiar about the Făgăraș in summer. The peaks are immense, yet they make you feel small in the most comforting way possible. You follow a path across a sea of green, watch shadows drift over the valleys below, and suddenly the modern world feels like a rumour.
