@drvickyho: I actually DO recommend fluoride. Just not the way most people use it. Fluoride is fantastic as a topical. It sits on your teeth, helps remineralise enamel, fights decay. No argument from me. The issue is ingestion. Most people don't realise how much they're swallowing. A 2025 JAMA Pediatrics meta-analysis across 74 studies linked higher fluoride exposure to lower IQ in children. And it's not just kids. A 2025 meta-analysis of 37 studies found fluoride above 1.5 mg/L in water increased bone fracture risk in adults, especially women over 50. Separate research linked high fluoride to thyroid disruption. The load from water, food, toothpaste, mouthwash, it adds up. What I actually do: I brush once and floss, then rinse away all the food debris. Then I dry my brush, apply the toothpaste fresh, brush it on and leave it on. If you have retainers, put them on. That way the fluoride does its job on the surface without me swallowing a mouthful of it. Now nano-hydroxyapatite is a different story. It's made of the same mineral your teeth are made of. An 18-month double-blind randomised trial showed it prevents cavities just as effectively as fluoride. You can leave it on. You can swallow it. No toxicity concerns and no fluorosis risk. I leave my hydroxyapatite toothpaste on happily too. In high decay risk cases or xerostomia, fluoride is more effective , but on kids this is safer. It's not fluoride vs no fluoride. It's knowing how to use each one properly. Save this and send it to someone who needs it. ➡ Comment or send us a message ""smileinfo"" to claim a complimentary consultation. Nano hydroxyapatite is even less studied about than fluoride. Pretty bold and wrong claims you’re making

Don’t want to completely poo poo on Taylor et al (2005), but out of these 74 studies included in the meta analysis, 59 were classified as ‘high risk’ of bias. I mean, that’s a pretty high number.

fluoride is just a cleaner but should not be swallowed. ultimately if you eat too much sugar is what breaks down your teeth

What toothpaste do you like? All of the NHA that I’ve tried feel like they leave a coating on my teeth.

Even if we look at the lower 0.15 mg/L threshold for chronic exposure, the math on this video's claim doesn't work. To sustain a 0.15 mg/L serum level, a normal adult's kidneys require them to absorb 16.2 mg of fluoride daily. With standard 1500ppm toothpaste, you would have to physically swallow 10.8 grams of toothpaste every single day to hit that. That's swallowing about 40 pea-sized amounts daily. Spitting out your toothpaste leaves a fraction of a milligram in your system. It does not "add up."

Generally fluoride is harmful to our health especially in neurological aspect ...instead we should use; salt, coconut or baking powder for better outcomes.

Almost every study linking fluoride with all kinds of things are done in fluoride tap water, toothpaste is no big deal as you dont swallow it

This is so disappointing.. to mention these studies w/o context is unprofessional and misleading at best. They were looking at water supplies with 2-5+ times the recommended fluoride levels, significantly greater than anything found in the residual toothpaste left on your teeth. Furthermore the amount of fluoride actually absorbed(~0.05ppm serum increase) with normal drinking water levels, remains significantly lower than the levels of intake required for thyroid disruption or skeletal fluorosis. Some pharmacokinetics studies suggest you could swallow an entire strip of toothpaste and still not approach a significant increase in fluoride serum levels. Fluoride toothpaste is safe and affordable.
