THIS IS A MYTH! Sad to see Veritasium which literally means "element of truth" in Latin, retelling this lie. In the Mario 64 community it's widely accepted that the height change probably wasn't caused by a bit flip, but caused by a glitch or a faulty console (not completely solved). Like science theories and understanding evolve while journalists keep spreading outdated misinformation..

Hey, somebody that actually know what they're talking about here. The upwarp was most likely caused by faulty hardware, as dotateabag had previously said that he had to tilt his cartridge to get the game to boot from his console. Depending on what way the cartridge is tilted it can have different effects like warping Mario's model or just straight up crashing the game. While rare it's not uncommon to see strange events happen on original consoles, so something like this isn't really a once in a lifetime event, just hardware oddities.

it was actually most likely a mix of an outside force (like construction which is a leading theory iirc) which happened to flip the bit, iirc there have only been like 2 cases of the cosmic ray happening because it's so unbelievably rare. Though it's technically possible, it's more likely the construction force or a simple glitch of the console/cartridge (if this is on an emulator then idk)
