Hello Listeners! In this episode, we had the opportunity to have a conversation with Miljenko Matijevic, the lead vocalist of SteelHeart. With an impressive 4-octave vocal range, Miljenko Matijevic has built a defining career in rock music spanning more than three decades. Born in Zagreb, Croatia, and moving to the United States at the age of six, Miljenko has continued to establish himself as one of rock’s most resilient voices. Beyond his work with SteelHeart, his journey includes becoming the singing voice for Mark Wahlberg’s character in the film Rock Star, as well as fronting The Doors alongside Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger. In this episode, Miljenko takes us behind the story of SteelHeart’s latest release, “Without You,” a cover of the Badfinger classic. What makes this release particularly special is that Miljenko actually recorded his version back in 1996, only for the recording to remain unheard for decades. Now, 30 years later, “Without You” has finally found its way into the digital era, featuring a 40-piece orchestra and what Miljenko describes as the most emotional vocal performance he has ever captured on tape. Originally written by Pete Ham and Tom Evans of Badfinger and first released on the 1970 album No Dice, “Without You” was later immortalized through versions by Harry Nilsson, Air Supply, and Mariah Carey. For Miljenko, bringing his own interpretation to the song is also part of a much longer journey. The release arrives during SteelHeart 30, a celebration of three decades since the band’s self-titled debut album was released on July 10, 1990. Through “Without You,” Miljenko revisits a piece of his musical history while introducing it to a new generation of listeners. Listen to the full episode of Bingkai Suara with Tori and discover the story behind “Without You,” the recording that waited three decades to finally be heard.
