You do not lose money because of the value of the coin. If it cost $0.08 to make a nickel that nickel will get spent tens of thousands of times. It will last 50 years. The cost to make it is far less than the value!

It cost 5 cents to make the 1,5,10,20 and 100 dollar bill and they are complaining about loosing 8 cents on a nickel? I think the mint will be ok.

The American public needs serious education, I used to deliver Sunday newspapers. It cost 4 dollars to produce that paper, but they only sold it for $1.25.
