Love the experiment. If you don't limit it to bags the potential is huge — aprons, tool rolls, welding gear, workwear patches, pet stuff. Full-grain buffalo at $10/sqm is functionally better than most synthetics in half these categories. But as you've shown, labour is the biggest barrier to making it a truly utilitarian material. You designed the simplest possible thing, minimal cutting, minimal joining, and it still landed at $18. That's the floor, not the ceiling. If there's a way to automate leather production for this stuff to reduce the cost, it'll be great to see the material being used more because it's affordable.

You should experiment with kids backpacks, gym bags, diaper bags, laptop bags, decorative pillows, decorative rugs, so may other uses than just handbags.

Honestly, I don’t get why Zara, H&M, and other fast fashion brands don’t use real leather when it’s so abundant. Instead, they use synthetic leather for jackets that end up peeling after two or three years.
