When ai was younger it was Edmund Scientific. They split in 84 into the consumer and educational side(Scientific) and the commercial(Optics) side. Loved their catalogs! I was just at HGR 2 weeks ago for their 3 day sale and picked up more HP test gear! Love that place! Did u ever go to Electronic Surplus when it was downtown? I know it's in Mentor now but it's a shadow of its former self. I enjoy ur content!

We can probably automate our troubles away to some extent using AI and bespoke machinery design. BUT. A) it won’t happen overnight. B) we have to upskill to learn how to run and service these new AI-era machines. C) we have to take financial risks. D) those of us who take these risks will eventually be shaken down by a strong UBI tidal force. Abundance won’t magically show up; folks like you and me will get us there. How to navigate that landscape is yet to be seen.

Can you buy off the shelf elements and machine a housing and make your own, decent 40mm f/1 manual focus lens for example?
