@leahshomestead: Milk cow vs milking sheep… and we’ve had both. A Jersey cow can give 4–6 gallons of milk a day. An East Friesian sheep gives closer to ½–1 gallon. One sounds more impressive… but one is actually more manageable for a family. There’s a big difference in feed cost, time commitment, and how much milk you realistically use. And something a lot of people don’t realize… sheep’s milk is higher in fat, protein, and often easier to tolerate. But no system is perfect. Sheep come with their own challenges too. At the end of the day, it comes down to what actually fits your life—not just what sounds good on paper. If you had to choose… which would you pick? #homesteadlife #milkcow #sheeplife #eastfriesian #homesteading
you've no idea how precious this milk is over here 🤭

I had a cow for a year and a half and decided… to get another one. I love my cows but I also have family and friends that take some of the milk. I milk once a day and have calf shared in the past and taken days off. I make 100% of our dairy products now.

My husband and I have had cows and goats. I would like sheep. We currently have one male wool sheep. Both goats and sheep can have rejection issues, even a cow though rarely. Goats are a LOT harder to keep fenced in, sheep not as much though they are still sneaky, especially after you shear them. Goats jump a lot higher then sheep. Goats are browsers sheep are grazers. Our sheep destroys any tree/bush he can get to. Doesn't eat it just destroys it. Our goats destroyed our whole garden one year.
Sheep have wool. Even if it isn't good for spinning you can still find uses for it. That said you have to shear your sheep or pay someone else to. Taste is good from all of them. The drawback from goats and sheep you have to use a cream separator if you want the cream. I could go on but work must be done 🫡

Personally, I go for the milking goat. Typically you don't get baby rejections as much, and I like their personality more than sheep.
