Here’s a simple way to understand it: At the top level (Core Layer), you have the brain of the system. This is where everything connects the main switch and storage servers. All footage from cameras ends up here, safely stored (sometimes up to 400–600TB of storage). Then comes the Distribution Layer. Think of this as the middle manager. It connects different sections of the network using high-speed fiber (10G) so there’s no lag or congestion. At the bottom is the Access Layer where the actual cameras are connected through PoE switches. This is where the real action happens. Now here’s the smart part: Instead of putting all 500 cameras on one network (which would slow everything down), the system is divided into VLANs (Virtual Networks): VLAN 10 → Block A.
