I believe that when Jesus spoke against divorce, he was specifically telling men that they could not divorce their wives because a lady in those times would have a hard time supporting herself. I do not believe that He meant a woman should have to stay in an abusive marriage, but many in the Church twist that to try and keep women under the thumb of an abusive husband.

Who wrote the marriage vows, God or man? The marriage vows are a human construct. What if you wrote your own vows? Or had secular vows? Even if we do go on the premise that the marriage vows are of God, your ex broke the one about honouring you. At that point, in my opinion, the marriage was over. Also, in my opinion, adultery only exists when you are still supposed to be in a committed marriage and you then stray… not when divorced and recommitted to someone new. I don’t believe God intends us to spend our lives alone after leaving a violent marriage.

This comment is kinda of wrong. Yes god does not like divorces but there are reasons that god thinks it is ok to get a divorce like abuse. Cheating, and does not follow Jesus there are more I just don’t know them even if you get divorced and remarried god forgives you because God forgives all and God doesn’t think abuse or pdfs are good

Jesus’ own disciples thought it was bizarre by saying “ it would be better then not to marry”. I don’t mind you deconstructing your faith but at least be honest about what the book you supposedly deconstructed says than try to freestyle your opinion into it
