Better spreading sawdust if yer wanting water retention in yer sandy loom, my land is a mix of sand and heavy clay here in Aberdeenshire Scotland, tanking yer field as well to stop run of nutrients

Come to norfolk county and see what our sandy soil grows! Sand is amazing - cover crop to help and see advancement in mustard planting to help the soil.

why dont you spread manure or compost on the field? maybe less in OM directly but for the longer run its cheaper and we (other side of the lake) spread compost here for OM and here it contains not only high OM but also much potassium and other stuff.
