Shipping aside, Zuko and Katara had the most meaningful interactions out of all the members of the group (besides Aang and Zuko) so it would make sense that this two would be paired up with each other for the final final. Just imagine Toph, Sokka or Suki in that scene instead of Katara. It would not hit the same because they lack the depth this two have together

just as integral as it is for zuko's arc to save katara, katara's arc also reaches a full circle by saving him. she went from being helpless in saving her mother from a firebender, to saving another person she cares about from a firebender at the height of their power (not to mention, it's the same person who has put the most effort in helping her get closure over her mom's death). to dismiss katara's involvement in this scene is to do an extreme disservice to the narrative merit that concludes zuko, katara, and azula's arc.

Wait that's perfect because then think of what Aang, Katara, and Zuko all represent to each other. Katara being the moral mouthpiece representing forgiveness for Zuko and heroism for Aang. Aang being the all powerful representing hope for both Katara and honor for Zuko. Zuko being the good in the face of evil representing empathy for Katara and persistence for Aang. Is this anything??

Yes! Zuko’s final technique was from the water benders (lightning redirection) and Katara’s final technique was from fire benders (breath of fire) THEIR PARALLELS ARE SPOT ON

they had a lovely friendship but the creators are so pissed with zutara shippers that they never give them any meaningful interactions after the agni kai. they even removed zuko's scar in the new movie out of spite. Like they literally saved each other's life at a very pivotal moment in the story:azula loses, zuko redeems himself and becomes firelord...and it gets downplayed so bad.

Yeah both of their archs come full circle at the Angi Kai. Azula as well as the foil to Zuko. Such a powerful way to complete so many character stories

I ship zutara but I also like the depth of the friendship. Zuko went from a banished prince that viewed the avatars sibling friends as water tribe peasants, to viewing them as people( by mid/late S2), and to earning their trust, forgiveness, and friendship by S3 end. He was willing to sacrifice his own life for a person he just recently befriended and lended an open ear with out judgement when she got to take a break from the rest of the gang and just spill out her story/pov of her mother's death. He learned to respect her as an equal.
