Please note: it depends on your job! We have to work until week 35 of pregnancy if it is a low risk job. But yes: we do have a longer maternity leave compared to the most countries.

This is a bit misleading, as not everyone can start maternity leave immediately. It depends very much on the profession and job category. Normally, maternity leave begins seven weeks before the expected due date, after which parental leave starts. In certain professions, such as healthcare workers, medical staff or educators in daycares, it may be possible to stop working earlier. However, this is definitely not the norm.

Wow, that’s amazing. Today I was told I can’t work from home (for my computer job) for 3 weeks cause I don’t get paid maturnity leave and only have 3 weeks of PTO built and my bag can’t go to daycare till he is 6 weeks old. 🫠

Was that during covid? That was pretty common then - otherwise it depends of the job and your health situation

Though that's more a perk of your job (e.g., medical specialists), the legally mandatory paid time off for average people doesn't start until somewhere in the third trimester.

I had to go out last week at 27 weeks due to gallbladder and liver problems and my work said yeah so your job is only protected until 3 weeks post partum and I said so what happens then? I come back? They said oh no we can’t let you work if your doctor says no. So what happens? Well HR decides if you get to stay or not. THREE WEEKS POSTPARTUM.
