@workbravely: Stop thinking about what you’re good at and start asking what your me uniquely tolerant of. #career #careeradvice #success #careertok #workadvice
I think you’ve expressed this idea magnificently. I’ve long thought similarly about “personality hires” at corporates. They spend a lot that many other contributors wouldn’t consider.

My friend says he makes good money in sales because most people can’t tolerate that level of repetitive rejection but it doesn’t bother him

I'd say with entrepreneurs, the currency would be your mental health, pride & ego. They are constantly challenged/hit, and you have to get up EVERYTIME. A Lot of people have it hit once, and will walk away and never try again

you explained what i’ve understood for so long! and that’s why i can be happy for people, but envious of no one. EVERYTHING comes with a cost no matter how glamorous.

This is a really great and empathetic take. And since we consume it as entertainment e.g. sports and influencers, we often don’t account for the personal cost. We often ask for more and punish them when they putting themselves and sometimes failing in public.

This is a phenomenal take. I’ve always thought this about influencers specifically—what they are giving (and foregoing?) is SO much more than what the average person is willing to endure (myself included). Low status work is also spot on.

spot on. everything including success has a cost, even if it is intangible

Yup! Another thing for influencers — the risk of longevity. They’re forgoing a corporate career to bet on themselves and taking themselves out of the traditional workforce for unexplored territory, we have no clue how long that career can or will last

This is a rare instance of excellent advice on social media, especially the last thing you said. More young people need to hear and follow this advise

The biggest one as someone already commented, is morality. The amount of even small businesses trying to finesse people is wild.

sometimes it's other people's currency too. pro athletes spend their parent's/spouse's currency in money, time, and sacrifice

Love the concept of asking what is the highest ROI sacrifice you can make in the context of the individual person. That is extremely optimistic and grounded as an idea.

I have realized that if I wanted to advance in my career I would need to sacrifice my authenticity. I know if I made the right moves I could have been on my way to the management team but that would've required me hiding my personality (change my voice, clothes, makeup, interests, vocabulary), choosing my company based on merit and not voicing my opinions unless they were aligned with the managers. It's too big of a sacrifice for me.

I’m in training to be an ENT surgeon and plan to become a facial plastic surgeon. I am also expecting my 4th baby and have a wonderful family life. I’ve been grinding for the past 13+ years and have made countless sacrifices. When I finally “make it” it’s not because of luck
