their color isnt similar at all even when they're both pale. Asians consistently have this melanin underneath their skin which looks yellow. Look at kpop idols caught under flash after sweating a bit of their makeup off on stage and you'll see under bright white light they turn golden yellow. Sun avoidance genuinely makes you lighter over time which is why domestic raised East Asians are so much lighter than their American/Australian counterparts. Sun protection adherence is also heavily emphasized domestically. nearly all East Asians are type 3-4 but they can get their baseline tone lighter up to a 2/1 through sun avoidance but it always behave like a 3 regardless because of the eumelanin.

Those pale Asians use whitening cream and shades too light for their skin tone. just look at pics of them when they were kids. they have higher levels of melanin (and they protect from the sun) not just one reason

People in these comments are being straight up racist and so confidently wrong about East Asian people, and I bet most of you have never even stepped foot there besides Japan and have definitely never lived in Asia. Skin bleaching is NOT a common practice. Some Asians are tan, some are naturally extremely pale, and no amount of sun avoidance will make you pale if you are not naturally. Most are also not walking around in UV clothing with umbrellas. East Asia is diverse.
