My ex husband officiated my marriage to my current husband. The person filing our paperwork for our marriage license noticed the name on my divorce decree was the same as the officiant name on the license and after a pause went “It’s not the same guy, right?” and we had to awkwardly be like “It is in fact the same guy.” 🙃

I used to issue marriage licenses in my province. I found it interesting that we had to confirm they weren't siblings, grandparents, or parents but nothing about cousins 😂

When I got mine they asked if we were related and I laughed and said “Not that we know of” and they stone faced looked at me and said it wasn’t funny and I need to answer it differently if I want to get married. 😅😂

i officiated a wedding for friends in wisconsin and i ALSO had to sign that i had verified that they weren’t cousins. they were high school sweethearts (who i set up, ayo) and i was like “if i find out that you’re cousins i AM gonna be pissed”

Same in Texas! My husband and I were laughing so hard because we each had to fill out a form stating this TWICE, then verbally confirm a THIRD time with the court clerk 😂

In NC we brought our docs to the counter, the clerk did her thing and then handed us a license and asked if we wanted to just do it then so we didn’t have to come back to drop it off 😂

lol my husband and I always giggle about the cousin question because when they asked us we both looked at eachother and asked “are you my cousin? Hmph think not!” Then a year later we found out his two FIRST cousins got married and have kids…

In Alabama you just print the marriage license off the court website, get it notarized,and file it in person with the fee. No ceremony or questions asked.
