I started wanting a tiny pond to cool off. Then it needed goldfish for the mosquitoes. By year three I had a full blown koi pond with rock waterfall, patio, aquasphere, fountain, and flower backdrop. 🥰 It had cattails and in winter I would slide on the ice.

I let my kids once dig holes. They dug three holes seven feet deep and then tunnels to connect them. They still talk about how fun that was. I think it was therapeutic for them too.

if you fill it with water, it's the gift that keeps on giving because then the birds come and plants grow around it and it becomes a whole cool ecosystem. I've got cattails growing in my hole now.
