Paid leave is maternal health In the U.S., too many mothers are still forced to choose between recovering, caring for their newborn, making postpartum appointments, and work. The U.S. has one of the highest maternal mortality rates among high-income countries despite the fact that 80% of maternal deaths are preventable. Better outcomes require better policies that give new mothers the time and support they deserve. That’s why the reintroduction of the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act matters.
