This just makes me sad for the original modern day plot. Where, over the course fo 7 games, Desmond would gain more and more Assassin abilities, to becomes the ultimate Assassin. And the last game being in modern times.

A lot of people don't know this but AC caught backlash because they decided to finish the desmond/Juno story line off screen in the comic book instead of the game.
