Silent viewer for a long time now, but I just had to comment on this one. I lost my husband in 2023, 10 days after giving birth to our second child and with a 20 month old at home. I can say with 100% certainty that I would not have survived without my friends. They took care of me, kept me going, made sure I was supported in every single way. They continue to be constants in my life, being there for anything and everything. This is not the reality for so many women who lose their partners. Most of the time people don’t know what to say, or do…and so they take the route of least resistance and fall away (this is true for me as well). So I just wanted to say this as someone who deeply knows what your friend is going through - you are an incredible human being and the kindness and love you’re showing will stay with her for the rest of her life. It will be a flicker of light in the darkness that eventually, with the other brightest parts of life, come together to make the world feel worth living in again.

I love this 🥹😭 Red sox’s are so nice when it comes to this stuff. They had sent my family a letter for my papa, back in 2009 when he had passed and it was really touching to see the team had reached out as they were his favourite team (same with family)

What a beautiful gift and thoughtful friend. From a grief perspective, grief is joy, sadness, pain and the integration of complex emotions. Being told to “pause grief” and “don’t let joy be robbed from you” are well intended, but could be incredibly hurtful. Grief is not “pause-able” and co-exists and integrates into who we are. Being shamed that we allow sadness and told to feel joy does not leave the important space we need to be authentic to our whole experience and our whole authentic selves. Grief, joy, they co-exists for the rest of our lives. It’s helpful to honor that.
