Always thought the “find words you don’t know in the passage” assignments were pointless bc I always knew the words or had a general grasp of their meaning by using context clues. Then I heard a high school senior ask what “distaste” meant and realized I wasn’t the target of those assignments

I used the word “misadventure” in a paper in Highschool and they called my parents into a meeting with the counselors because I was “making up words.” I literally had to pull out a dictionary and prove it’s a word. 🤦🏻♀️
