just a big header, ok if you've got the room but unnecessary. Was fitting high temp Daikin Altherma's over 20 years ago and been fitting low temps since, within all sorts of properties. What I've learnt on the benefits of customer is: too many engineer's fit way too much on the mechanical side of installs in,,in domestic settings, (I did exactly the same years ago). An experienced engineer will keep things minimalist, to still achieve the same results keeping costs down .

buffers are terrible destroy your efficiency

de coupling. not a bad design when trying to get a heat pump to run more efficiently on an old heating system rather than connecting to it directly

I'm not a Heating engineer but its like adding more radiators in the system, I love to add as an experiment vermiculite lagging around it in a Box

it keeps a balanced temperature of water returning to the heat pump

how do you size a buffer

I have seen the likes of Heatgeek ripping out buffer tanks as they allegedly kill the heatpump efficiency, pushing the SCOP down significantly ?
