The piano may look complicated at first, but it is actually built from a very simple pattern. Look closely at the black keys. You will notice a group of two black keys, followed by a group of three black keys. This same pattern repeats across the entire keyboard. Now let's look at the white keys. The white notes follow a simple sequence of seven letters - C, D, E, F, G, A, and B. C is the white key to the left of the two black keys. While F is the white key to the left of the three black keys. Every other note falls between, and the pattern starts again. In the number system, we give each note a number. C is the 1. D is the 2. E is the 3. F is the 4. G is the 5. A is the 6. and B is the 7. Once you understand these seven notes, the piano suddenly becomes much easier to understand.
