@moneyinmotionhq: number. Here's why £500 is the smarter UK starting point, and exactly how to get there fast. This is the Money in Motion Baby Steps series: Ramsey's framework, rebuilt for British life. Step 1 covers the starter emergency fund — the buffer that stops normal life moments turning into more debt. Do you already have a starter emergency fund set aside? Yes or no — let me know below. #BabyStepsUK #DaveRamsey #UKPersonalFinance #EmergencyFund

I just had £885 cost to pass my cars MOT…if I didn’t have my £1k emergency fund, I would have gone into more debt

£500 doesn’t cover much these days £750-1000 would be better. Currently on baby step 2 💪🏻

yes i have an emergency fund in a regular saver account with a bonus at the end of the first 12month so I will not touch this unless it is an emergency so I am hoping to get to August without taking out money!! then I will be moving it to another or should I pay things off?

£1000 is the right amount. £800 at the very least!

What if you have absolutely no spare money buffet per month to be able to save £500 - living month to month even with cutting everything you can to save a buffer? It’s a vicious cycle

I have literally just spent £758 on essential tyre and brake repairs from a well known garage. £500 isn’t enough

Totally disagree. £1000-£3000 is a good starter emergency fund. Then increase to 3-6 months of living expenses or 6-12 months if self employed.

I do put purchases or emergencies on the credit card but then use my savings immediately to pay it off - as have more protection on the credit card

I’ve got a £450 overdraft i max out each month, costs £7 a month. Should I save to pay that off first or the £500 emergency fund? Feel like I never get anywhere with either 🤪

I've started doing this. I work nights and every time I want to get a taxi to or from work but I dont I put the momey it would've cost into a savings pot. it gives me the seen progression of how much I would've spent if I gave in

It’s probably best to disclose that this is not financial advice and to do your own research.

I saved £500 emergency fund, started saving for other debts and then had a £600 exhaust repair - feel better that I had the emergency find but now feel defeated that I have to rebuild that before carrying on.😒

Just opened up a savings account with chase that is gonna be used to start this fund. I look forward to seeing it increase at the weeks go by. I’ve just recently started selling on Vinted as well as bank switching so hopefully I can get to that £500 quick enough
