It was easiest for me to understand this with the example of an athletics track. The targets are not on the same plane, the target of the outer lane goes first, then the middle and finally the last inner lane has the furthest target marked. Since time does not change, it is gravity that affects time. The closer a person is to the source of gravity, the slower time passes.

All this confusion comes from the fact that we tend to treat time as something universal across space. In reality, time itself is not something we invented, but the way we measure it is, based on earth’s rotations and cycles. Outside of that local system, time doesn’t flow identically everywhere, it becomes relative rather than absolute.

its not different on PLANETS thats misleading, its closer to MASS high MASS creates time dilation, like a black hole for example. similarly, effects of time dilation occur with speeds close to the speed of light
