@airic.z: Is £1 million actually enough to retire in London? I did the math and the answer is scarier than you’d think 😅 This analysis does not factor in the state pension. In my opinion, the state pension will change to at least 70 (by the time I retire), and will need to be revamped in order for it to be sustainable. #ukpersonalfinance #londonlife #retirement #fintok #ukpensions londoner money advice, london retirement, uk pension planning, how much to retire uk, retire in london, compound interest uk, isa, sipp, financial independence uk, fire movement uk, london salary, personal finance uk, pension shortfall, inflation impact retirement. I don’t believe in pension……….that is not retirement relying on the Money that is not even in your hand…….Better to invest in commercial property or any other property business. Invest in pension should be your third or forth income at retirement age.

I 100% agree with you. Would you stay in London when you retire? Would you move abroad?

You’re not considering any dividends on the £1m. A 5% dividend on that portfolio would be £50k a year without touching the capital.

IMO it’s always simpler to consider today’s money, and ignore inflation from any projected investment returns

Are workplace pensions factored into this or is it just savings and investments?

In London you need 25 million cash to retire. In other countries 1M is more than enough

Presumably this is based on buying an annuity? It will be less if you leave invested and draw down an income

We, in the U.K., need to start to invest (sensibly) in the way they do in the US. 100% agree we need to be more educated 🙏🏼🙏🏼
