George Stinney Jr. was a 14-year-old Black boy from Alcolu who became one of the youngest people executed in the United States in the 20th century.
In 1944, two young girls were found dead near his town, and George was arrested and accused of the crime. His trial lasted only a few hours, and the jury convicted him very quickly. He was executed in the electric chair just a few months later.
Many years later, people began questioning whether he had received a fair trial. In 2014, a judge overturned his conviction, saying there were serious problems with the case and the legal process.
