Worked for a company that uses AI to analyze reports and write codes. Let’s just say our Engineering team called for an intervention cause it was causing a lot of unnecessary hardship on the team

We are being laid off at Covalen (Meta vendor) in Dublin and we won’t get any severance and there is also an unwritten rule of 6 months’ cooldown which means we can’t apply to other companies who work with the same client. Many rules and laws have already been violated by the company during this layoff process.

My company calls it "Digital transformation". it is all about MOVING people away from jobs that AI can do. I am not needed to run a report and summarize it. Ai can do that with a quick check from me for accuracy at the end.

there's something in there too of how companies felt the pressure to spend the money on the AI and now layoffs are the most (short sighted) obvious way to balance that spending

You still need to understand how AI gets the answer, but more importantly the user needs to understand the output and how to apply the output. Also, you need to know how to verify the output of the AI. Because like it or not, AI makes mistakes. AI is efficient but not perfect in any way.

this is what every retail company is doing with their online ordering. Setting up call centers in India and the Philipines and "laying off" or forcing their american workforce back to the office and touting their investments in AI.
