People with ocd and anxiety often have a very poor cost benefit analyzer especially around discomfort (anxiety, trauma triggers, sticky thoughts, etc). They are willing to sacrifice so much long term freedom and fulfillment for short term reassurance and “safety” (often not even logical safety). Yes, some safety is worth the cost but far more often than not this is skewed with ocd clients and humans in general. Unfortunately, analyzing this alone doesn’t help (I know you’ve tried) This is why I so often encourage clients to work with their therapists on an objective plan to start evening the scales. This often includes exposures and leaning towards neglected values. This is also something I will be walking you through in my online course in detail.
