@athenasdriedflower: #GREEKMYTHOLOGY Telemachus is an important figure in Greek mythology, best known as the son of Odysseus and Penelope, and a central character in The Odyssey. At the beginning of the story, he is a young and uncertain prince living in Ithaca, struggling with the long absence of his father after the Trojan War. His home is overrun by suitors who want to marry Penelope and seize power, and Telemachus initially lacks the confidence to oppose them. With the guidance of Athena, he sets out on a journey to learn what happened to Odysseus, visiting heroes like Nestor and Menelaus. This journey marks his transformation from a passive boy into a more assertive and mature young man. When Odysseus finally returns, Telemachus stands beside him and helps defeat the suitors, restoring order to their household and kingdom. In mythology, his role represents the transition from youth to adulthood, the importance of lineage, and the bond between father and son—he is often seen as a “coming-of-age” counterpart to Odysseus’s experienced heroism. In Roman mythology, Telemachus does not change significantly but is known by the Latinized name Telemachus as well, since the Romans largely adopted Greek myths into their own system. Roman writers, such as Virgil, did not heavily focus on him in works like Aeneid, but the character still exists within the shared Greco-Roman mythological world. #greektiktok #greekmythologytiktok #romanmythology #greekgods
