My favorite part of feeding my kids is when they ask for a specific item from the grocery store, I purchase that item, I give them that item…and they inform me that they hate that item??? LIKE…YOU’RE THE ONE THAT ASKED FOR THIS 😭

One of my greatest parenting triumphs was when my kid's cookie broke in half right after I handed it to them, and by some miracle I managed the exact right combo of empathy and enthusiasm when I said "oh bummer..... but now you have TWO pieces of cookie, how cool is that?" and my kid calmed right down. I feel like there was a 0.0025% chance of that actually working, and a decade later I'm still amazed that it did.

my kid INSISTED he wanted a corn dog. I said "are you sure you don't want just a hot dog?" Nope, corn dog. Then he pulled all the breading off and asked for a bun. He wanted a hot dog.

Every time I make my son a sandwich, I have to ask what shape he wants it cut into (squares, triangles or rectangles) and then wait a solid 30 seconds after he answers because his answer always changes the moment the knife touches the sandwich.
