not sure if this is as relevant, but when I used to work in retail and had a name tag, I remember having a visceral reaction when customers would use my name before I gave it to them. something about them knowing my name but me not knowing theirs without any action on either part did feel like a power imbalance

When Latin America tries to rename America and Americans, they think it's an act of resistance against a ridiculously imagined attempt by Americans to "hoard" the word American. The source of this hallucination is envy. It's like they're saying, I'm (continental) American, so you can't call yourself American because it makes me feel insignificant.🙄

I love your hooks. They always make me think, “How the hell are those things related?” and then you explain it so eloquently

it's genuinely beautiful how accurately you put these topics into words. Whenever someone asks why I changed my name, I always struggled to answer them. it was a sense of freedom and a new chapter of my life.

I studied for my final exam by trying to summarize each reading we did with three seemingly random examples that all in some way apply, inspired by your video format! It was so much fun

Took a class on analyzing writing and we studied several of Toni Morrison’s books including Beloved, it is INCREDIBLE how much there is just in her characters names. She’s brilliant. Also this is a great video
