@asma.khan0524: Ophiasis alopecia areata is a specific, often resistant subtype of alopecia areata that manifests as a band-like pattern of hair loss around the lower back and sides of the scalp. It is caused by an autoimmune reaction where T-cells attack hair follicles, resulting in sudden, smooth, wave-like hair loss. Ophiasis is often considered more difficult to treat than other types of patchy alopecia areata and frequently has a less favorable prognosis, with higher risks of recurrence. While there is no permanent cure, treatments include intralesional steroid injections, topical immunotherapy, topical steroids, minoxidil, and newer JAK inhibitors.
